The following Passover programs by Agudath Israel will be available in the Chicago area:

LIQUID PAIN RELIEVERS

Walgreens Extra Strength Pain Reliever Acetaminophen sold for adults whose
dosage is almost identical to that of the ones produced for children, and it is
recommended for Pesach and year round use. Your doctor should be able to
tell you how to adjust the dosage for children.

There are very specific private label liquid ibuprofen drops sold for
infants under the CVS, Rite Aid, and Walgreens brands which are
recommended for year round and Pesach use.
They are recommended only in either the 0.5 oz or the 1 oz
package and only when the lot number begins with 007.

There is a chewable Walgreens ibuprofen tablet (Orange and Grape Flavors) which
is recommended for year round and Pesach use.

If these are not available, you should consult with an Orthodox Rabbi for his suggetion.

As is the case with all medications used on Passover, they should be kept away from
the kitchen and other food areas. All spoons, measuring cups, droppers, etc. that are
used with the medications should also be kept away from the kitchen and other food areas.

To our knowledge, the only veggie wash that is acceptable for Passover use is Fit
brand which is certified by the OU. It does not require a Passover certification on
the label. We also recommend that one use a small amount of dish liquid in water,
as it is acceptable for use year round as well as Passover and does a better
job in removing insects.

  • Ethyl Alcohol

*************************************************************

There is a fast spreading rumor that all new self-cleaning ovens are now made to operate with a much lower cleaning temperature that is not sufficient for kashering. The fact is that while some of the new ovens are indeed manufactured with these new specifications, many are still made with the older method of operating with a much higher temperature that would definitely qualify for kashering at libun gamur. One should check with the manufacturer’s specs to determine the temperature which the self-cleaning mode operates.

*********************************************************************

Pedialyte freeze pops, liters, singles, and powder packs are acceptable for use on Passover as long as they bear an OU on the label. They are all kitniyos and are therefore only suitable for cholim.

********************************************************************

Last year we were able to determine that Zen Soy brand soy milk was chometz free. Unfortunately, we are not able to make that distinction this year.

********************************************************************

Last year we stated that all Dole and Fresh Express brands of fresh salads that are acceptable during the year are also acceptable for Pesach even without the "P" Passover designation on the bag. However, the Star K has stated that does not apply for 2014 and those bagged salads now require a Star K -P kosher for Passover certification.

************************************************************************

Bagged vegetables such as pre-washed lettuce (other than Dole and Fresh Express brands), baby carrots, shredded carrots, shredded cabbage, raw cole slaw mix, etc. are acceptable for Passover use if they do not contain sensitive ingredients. However, they should be purchased prior to Passover and must be checked for insects when necessary.

*******************************************************************

On our Passover Shopping Guide we state that Lactaid brand milk is acceptable if purchased prior to Passover. This applies to the generic brands of lactose-free milk as well.

******************************************************************

Dried chili peppers are fine for Pesach without hashgacha as long as they are pure, without additives and just dried.

*****************************************************************

Ground coffee beans (not instant coffee) packed at the coffee bean company that are not flavored or decaf, are fine without Passover certification. However, if the coffee is ground at a retail store, you must be certain that the grinding machine is completely clean, which may be close to impossible to do.

****************************************************************

**************************************************************

************************************************************************

Once again there will be a Kosher for Passover Almond Milk produced by Lieber's that is under the certification of Rabbi Weismandel. This is preferable to the soy and rice milk listed in our Passover Guide which are kitniyos. It is also preferable to the almond milk listed which are only for cholim since they may be made on chometz equipment.
